Sooo... a friend of mine, who´s only occassionally in the channel (like me, bc we´re doing many runs with fleet mates) asked a question in the channel. But occassionally or not, he´s EARNED it.

With "earned" it I mean that we did a run with him, and the goal was to get him into the 10 k channel. On PURPOSE, but without a nanny.

Why am I mentioning this? I´m mentioning this bc I just have the feeling that a few peeps are in this channel not on purpose but accidentally. Accidentally bc someone else uploaded a parse and they got an invite. And this invite was for them like an invitation to be a dick.

So, what happened? My friend (who got the invite with his main, a tac officer) asked IF someone would allow him (a new science toon) to participate in an ISA (which is, at least the last time I checked THE map for any comparison) to know what his dps is. The second question was "where´s the line drawn". (Channel roules state clearly that you should announce it if you want to participate with a toon that doesn´t meet the requirements, but they don´t say anything about a min dps)

Yeah... the answer he got was like "how can´t you know what your DPS is?". Mhm... Yes, he does have CLR. Yes, he could have done a run with fleet mates. But he´s chosen to do the run with fellow DPS-channel members. And he mentioned that this was a new toon, with a new profession which he´s just testing out. Wait... "fellow DPS-channel members"? No, not really. The answers he got were Dick-answers. Is that the new spirit of the DPS-channels? I hope not.

I always thought that "the spirit" was to help out new members, provide information, encourage new members to go to their limits... this spirit drove me to defend the dps-channels all the time... maybe I was wrong?

Cheers, Andrea

Edit: Oh, and yeah... this friend of mine I was talking about was one of the people I encouraged to work on his dps to get an invite to the DPS-channel... bc there are helpful people... mhm...

No you are not wrong at all, unfortunately there are some in the 10k channel who just don't know the way the channel is supposed to work.

Honestly, I test out a LOT of weird concept SCI builds, checking DPS (in 10k), and I've never had this happen to me. And I usually say "I need to test this build, I have no idea what the DPS of it is yet." I'd like to think your friend had an odd occurrence. Might just be me, though.

Yeah this is an unfortunate event, but there's not much we can do after the fact, if we see it happening we have the word with the person doing it, but after the fact it's just 'he said, she said'.

Not that I'm trying to invalidate your complaint, it is just, and we do our best to stop it when we see it.

You are of course right, there are some people who got into 10k from someone uploading their parse. So sometimes we get people come in, with no interest in DPS and just troll, if there's no admins around at the time, just put that person on ignore and forget about them, they'll slip up in-front of an admin sooner or later.

But bear in mind, you won't always see us, 'telling them off' as we often do it in private.

Thx for your answers.

And yeah, usually I´m just ignoring those people (which doesn´t mean that I´m actually using the ingame ignore function, I´m usually just giving a f*** about it) with Janeway expression Nr. 27 on my face (check it out here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/catesevilla/46-times-captain-janeway-was-so-sassy-it-hurt#.au4R3GPqA ). It´s just that on some days I´m feeling like I jumped into ESD zone chat (almost)...

@Bob: That´s totally ok, moderating always should be done with pms.

Cheers, Andrea

For those who do not know me, I'll run w/ anyone, anywhere, anytime I am available, so long as it's not that filthy ground combat garbage.... I hate getting my shiny boots dirty.
